Shirley Kathryn (Brehmer) Bruemmer, age 80, of Elgin, MN, loving wife, mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and faithful servant, moved on to her
heavenly home on June 11, 2016.
Shirley was born to Albert and Clara (Benike) Brehmer on May 25, 1936, on the
family farm near Potsdam, MN. She graduated from Elgin High School in 1954
and married Roger Bruemmer on February 12, 1955. After working in
Minneapolis, she traveled to Germany where her new husband was stationed.
After staying home with her children, Shirley worked at Rochester State Hospital,
then returned to school for her LPN degree and continued her career, working
until retirement, for Rochester Methodist Hospital. After retirement, she and
Roger traveled the country in their fifth wheel, hiking, golfing, and biking and
spending winter in Benson and Casa Grande, AZ.
Shirley was a caring, nurturing, and kind person; she was an avid reader,
gardener, polka dancer, baker, singer, and was committed to her faith and
church. She loved ice cream and babies! She was a compassionate nurse and
touched many lives with her warmth and ready smile.
She will be missed by her five children, Dawn (Bill) Dieter of Falcon, CO, Dean
(Jane) of Silver City, NM, Rebecca (Jerry) Reiter of New London, MN, Jennifer
(Tom Woldum) Wagner of Minneapolis, MN, and Wesley (Debra) of Elgin;
brother, Jerry (Linda) Brehmer of Wabasha; brother-in-law, Keith (Maxine) of
Elgin; 15 grandchildren, Brenna (Tony) Ledoux, Michael (Kelly) Dieter, Joe, Max,
and Isaac Bruemmer, Jacob (Ashley), Luke, John and Nicholas Reiter, Peter
(Megan) Wagner, Rachel (Gregory) Mosley, Sarah (Jon) Esch and Meredith
Wagner, Nicole (Cody) Kolar and Dan Bruemmer, and four great-grandchildren,
Jonah, Kale, Olive and Autumn.
She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Roger, her
parents, sister Eileen Schroeder, and brothers Herbert and Marvin Brehmer.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 16, 4-7 pm at Schad & Zabel Funeral
Home in Plainview. A service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held on Friday,
June 17, at 11:00 am, with visitation starting at 10:00 am, at Trinity Lutheran
Church in Elgin, with interment at the Elgin Cemetery. Rev. Terrill Bramstedt is
