Ronald Goergen, 82, of Elgin, died Friday, September 11, 2020 at Cottagewood
Senior Communities in Rochester.
Ronald Bernard Goergen was born October 1, 1937 in Osage, Iowa to Bernard
and Beatrice (Mullenbach) Goergen. He was raised in Johnsburg, MN and
graduated from Adams High School in 1956. On April 30, 1960 he married Darlene
Schmidt at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview. They lived in the Plainview-
Elgin area their entire married life. Ron was employed at St. Mary’s Hospital in
Rochester for 37 years. He had also worked for Jacobs Disposal of Plainview for
20 years. During his retirement years he worked as the crossing guard at Plainview
High School and did janitorial work at the Elgin High School. He was a member of
St. Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview. Ron enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping
and traveling. Family was very important to him and he always put family first and
was willing to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his wife Darlene of Elgin; Children, Deb Shones (Dan Grabau) of
Wykoff, MN and Timothy Goergen of Elgin; Daughter-in-law, Carol Goergen-
Fenske (Steve); Grandchildren, Jon (Christi) Shones, Ben Shones, Mitchell
(Amanda) Shones, Shalamar (Adam) Mesenbring, Bob (Hanna) Shones, Nikki,
Tanner and Ashton Goergen; Great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Macie, McKenna,
Easton, Hudson, Penny, Elsie and Carter; 1 brother, Lester (Caroline) Goergen of
Adams, MN and many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, son (Keith), daughter-in-law (Nancy)
and 2 brothers, Richard and John and 2 infant sisters.
A private funeral mass will be Wednesday, September 16, 2020, 11:00 am at St.
Joachim Catholic Church in Plainview with Father William Becker officiating.  Burial
is at St. Joachim Cemetery. Private visitation is one hour prior to the service at the
church. Covid-19 restrictions will be followed and face masks are required.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Plainview Elgin Millville food shelf or
Seasons Hospice.
