Jerry Thomas Martin passed away on March 29, 2018 at St Therese of New Hope,
New Hope, MN. He was born on November 6, 1934 in Plum City, Wisconsin. He
graduated from Plum City High School as valedictorian and then attended the
University of Wisconsin, River Falls. He enlisted in the US Army and served from
1954-1956, primarily in Germany. He was very proud of his military service. He
married Agnes Brion on July 14, 1956 in Durand, Wisconsin. They moved to
Milwaukee, WI. where they started their family and Jerry obtained his BS in
chemistry in 1960 at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He worked for a
number of companies in Milwaukee as a chemist and then moved to Plainview, MN
in 1966 with a transfer to IBM in Rochester, MN. He had a successful career which
included 4 US patents, many technical publications, managed multiple groups,
and traveled extensively solving technical problems. He retired in 1997. He served
on the Plainview School Board for many years and was a member of the Knights
of Columbus. His hobbies included developing an extensive family genealogy, and
watching the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed hunting
and fishing trips with the kids and grandkids.
Jerry is survived by children Roberta (Gary) Heitkamp, Roy (Lisa) Martin, and
Brian (Carrie) Martin; grandchildren, Sara ( Zach) Brown, Joe (Annelise)
Heitkamp, Chris, Margaret (John) Jensen, Rebecca, Jennifer, and Ben, and great
grandson Harrison Jensen, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by wife, Agnes, parents Lester and Paula, sister, Marilyn
Hechler, and brother, Lester.
Memorial Mass will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 14 at St. John’s Catholic
Church in Plum City, Wisconsin. Burial is at Free Home Cemetery, Plum City.
Visitation is Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials
preferred to St Therese of New Hope, 8000 Bass Lake Road, New Hope, MN
