Rev. Gerald R. Peterson, 88, died January 6, 2016 at St. Isidore Health Center of
Greenwood Prairie in Plainview.
Gerald was born June 23, 1927 in Minneapolis to Hjalmer and Edith (Johnson)
Peterson. As a child, he lived in Minneapolis, Stillwater, and Aberdeen, South
Dakota. He joined the Navy and served during WW ll. Upon discharge, Gerald
finished his senior year of high school, graduating from Minnehaha Academy in
Minneapolis where he met his wife Julia Egler. They were married August 15, 1953
in Minneapolis. Gerald went on to attend Gustavus Adolphus, the University of
Minnesota, Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary and Concordia Seminary
in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He served as Pastor in Cross Lake-Swanburg, MN;
Cavalier, ND; Augustana Lutheran Church in Minot, ND and Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Plainview, MN. He retired in 1993 to Fridley, MN.  His wife Julia died June
1, 1999.
Gerald enjoyed painting, sculpting, theater: acting on stage at university and
professionally, reading, traveling and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons; Brian Peterson of Fridley, MN, and Lee (Donna)
Peterson of Plainview, MN, and one grandson, Adam Peterson of Duluth, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Julia and two brothers, Jack and
Lowell Peterson.
Funeral service is Monday, January 11, 2016, 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church
in Elgin with Rev. Terrill Bramstedt officiating. Burial is at the Hillside Cemetery in
Minneapolis. Visitation is Sunday, 5-8 pm at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in
Plainview and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
