Betty Lou (Beringer) Diemer, age 96, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at
the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN
Betty was born July 14, 1921 in Hampton, IA, to Quay and Cecilia (Flynn) Beringer. She
graduated from Hampton High School and Stephens College, Columbia, MO. Betty
worked as a secretary at Iowa State College in Ames, IA and in the OPA (Office of Price
Administration) in Hampton, IA, where food rations were distributed in the 1940s at the
end of the Depression and World War
II.                                                                                                                            At the
OPA she met her future husband, Bernard Diemer.  They were married on March 20,
1946.  They started their farming lives together near Hampton, and then in 1958 moved
to a farm near Dover, MN.  Toward the end of their farming years Betty was employed at
Camera Art in Lewiston for fifteen years, where she helped develop local school
pictures.  After Bernie’s death in 1989, Betty moved to St. Charles, MN, where she
befriended other widowed ladies and organized several bus trips.  She moved to Arbor
Gardens in Eyota in 2003 and then to the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield in
2013.  Betty was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota, MN, where she
held several offices.  She was also a member of the St. Charles Senior Citizens, Rural
Robins Homemaker Club, Olmsted County Extension Council, and the Eyota and St.
Charles American Legion Auxiliaries.
Betty’s loves were her family, class and family reunions, crocheting, collecting recipes,
traveling and reading.  To her family and those who knew her, Betty is remembered as:
someone who could easily remember a person’s name, especially after having it spelled
to her; the importance of saying Please and Thank You; being an over-packer for trips;
always having a friendly smile and a greeting to those around her; and always wanting
to know which direction she was heading when travelling.
She is survived by one son, Bruce (Debbie) Diemer of LeRoy, MN, three daughters, Judi
(Gary) Daniels of Chatfield, MN, Dee Ann (Gary) Saxhaug of Sioux Falls, SD, and Margo
(Don) Katterhagen of Rice Lake, WI, as well as eight grandchildren and sixteen great
grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her only brother Jamie, her
husband, and twin newborn daughters.
The family would like to thank the Chosen Valley Care Center and Season’s Hospice for
their compassionate care of Betty.  Thank you also to her family at Faith United
Methodist Church for their continued thoughts, visits and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota,
